About the Parks:
Animal Kingdom is dedicated and themed around natural environment and animal conservation and distinguishes itself from the other Disney theme parks by featuring traditional attractions and hundreds of species of animals. To avoid disturbing the animals, the park’s nighttime show, featuring the iconic Tree of Life, does not feature fireworks and in efforts to be more eco-friendly the park prohibits plastic straws, lids and balloons. It is the sixth-most-visited theme park in the world and also the largest, covering 580 acres in total. Popular rides at Animal Kingdom include Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey in Pandora. In the Africa zone visitors can enjoy the Kilimanjaro Safari to see animals roaming freely or walk through the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail and Wild Africa Trek before boarding the Wildlife Express train at Harambe Station. Expedition Everest is a giant roller coaster in the Asia zone, close to Kale River Rapids and the Maharajah Jungle Trek featuring more than 100 species of animals. Over in DinoLand USA, kids under 5 can have fun in The Boneyard playground and other attractions designed especially for them.
Hollywood Studios is divided into seven themed areas, each one offering a different experience to visitors. Hollywood Boulevard serves as the park’s entrance and is the best place to see live street entertainment and seasonal parades. Echo Lake includes three major attractions, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, a 3D motion simulator set in the Star Wars universe, the live-action stage show Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular illustrating how professional film stunts are performed. Muppet Vision 3D is located in Grand Avenue which connects to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, set within the Star Wars Universe and the location for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and the flying simulator Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Younger family members can meet up with Woody and Buzz in Toy Story Land, enjoying the interactive 4D attraction Toy Story Mania! or Slinky Dog Dash, a gentle outdoor rollercoaster or** Alien Swirling Saucers**, a spinning teacup ride. Animation Courtyard hosts Star Wars Launch Bay, an exhibition featuring behind-the-scenes props and character meet and greets with Darth Vader and Chewbacca. Finally, Sunset Boulevard features the iconic Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the nearby Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, an indoor roller coaster with a high-speed launch.
Magic Kingdom, the first of the four Disney World theme parks here in Orlando, welcomes 21 million visitors per year, making it the most visited theme park in the world. Main Street, the first of 6 themed ‘lands’ is lined with shops selling merchandise and food and leads to the iconic Cinderella Castle. Adventureland represents the mystery of exploration and is themed to represent remote jungles in Africa, Asia and other exotic locations around the world. This is where you can discover classic attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise. In Frontierland guests can relive the American Old West as they ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the extremely popular Splash Mountain. Haunted Mansion and The Hall of Presidents are both in Liberty Square, an area inspired by a colonial American town during the American Revolution. Fantasyland is dedicated to the ‘young at heart’ and features lots of rides and attractions including It’s a Small World and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Finally, Tomorrowland, set in an intergalactic city is home to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the extremely funny Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor.
Epcot is dedicated to the celebration of human achievement and is represented by Spaceship Earth, a symbolic sphere which is home to a time-machine-themed experience ride of the same name. The four ‘neighbourhoods’ include World Celebration at the park’s main entrance and features Imagination! Pavilion which encourages visitors to think about things that may happen at some point in the future. World Discovery focuses on stories about space, science and technology and is where you can ride Mission:Space, the thrilling Test Track and join the Guardians of the Galaxy for a chase through space and time on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. World Nature focuses on the natural world and has a narrated boat tour, Living with the Land, allowing visitors to take a journey through a greenhouse and hydroponics lab. This is also where Soarin’ Around the World is found, a hang gliding ‘flight’ over various regions of the world. World Showcase represents the culture, cuisine, architecture and traditions of 11 nations, including the United Kingdom, China, Germany and Morocco, around a man-made lake which is the site of Harmonious, a nighttime firework show.
Blizzard Beach is “the most slushy, slippery, exhilarant water park anywhere!” and features Mount Gushmore, a 90ft mountain down which all of the main slides run. The flagship attraction, Summit Plummet, is 120 ft tall and takes riders at speeds of up to 60mph. and this is close to Teamboat Springs, a white-water raft ride for up to 6 people at a time. Slush Gusher is a fun ride that levels off in 2 places, making it one of only a few water slides where “air-time” is achieved. Downhill Double Dipper is a side-by-side racing tube slide and Snow Stormers is a ‘mat slide’ consisting of three flumes. Toboggan Racers is an 8 lane water slide that sends riders over dips as they lie on their stomachs and race headfirst to the finish line. Runoff Rapids is found near the rear of the park and is an inner tube run that sends riders down twisting, turning flumes passing through steel pipes. At ground level there is Melt-Away Bay wave pool,** Cross Country Creek**, a slow-moving lazy river and plenty of activities for younger family members in Ski Patrol Training Camp. The water here is heated to approximately 80 °f (27 °c) and the park is open year round except for an annual maintenance closure in winter, during which time, its sister park, Typhoon Lagoon, will remain open. Bad weather could also see the temporary closure of this outdoor water park for obvious reasons, no refunds or rain checks will be offered if this does occur. Occasionally, especially in the busy summer months, the park will reach capacity and will be closed to additional incoming guests, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. There is no requirement to book Blizzard Beach in advance. Cool boxes containing your own food and drink are permitted in the park, the only restricted items being glass and alcohol.
Typhoon Lagoon is home to one of the worlds largest outdoor wave pools where it is even possible to body surf. The centerpiece of the park is ‘Miss Tilly’ a shrimp boat impaled on Mount Mayday that erupts a 50ft geyser of water every 30 minutes. Attractions here include Humunga Kowabunga, three enclosed ‘speed slide’ flumes that sends riders downward at speeds approaching 40mph. Storm Slides consists of three body slides that sends riders down twisting, winding channels into a splash pool, Gang Plank Falls, a family raft ride, Forgotten Grotto, a cave walkway through Mount Mayday and Overlook Pass, a walkway across the mountain slopes. Hideaway Bay is a sandy beach area with loungers and a wading pool and this is close to Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a two-person water coaster with hairpin turns and drop-offs. In Typhoon Lagoon younger family members can enjoy themselves on Bay Slides, a beginner slide that sends toddlers down gentle slopes into a secluded corner of the surf pool. Ketchakiddee Creek is a play area featuring small slides and fountains as well as water features that spray everywhere including a tugboat and a mixture of whales and seals. A more sedate way of exploring Typhoon Lagoon is by slowing floating along Cross Country Creek, the lazy river that circles the entire park and passes through gentle waterfalls, lush rainforests and mist screens. The water here is heated to approximately 80 °f (27 °c) and the park is open year round except for an annual maintenance closure in winter, during which time, its sister park, Blizzard Beach, will remain open. There is no requirement to book Typhoon Lagoon in advance. Cool boxes containing your own food and drink are permitted in the park, the only restricted items being glass and alcohol.
