WonderWorks Orlando celebrates its 20th birthday!

WonderWorks is fun for all ages, challenges the mind and sparks imagination.

Featuring over 100 hands-on science exhibits, WonderWorks is an indoor interactive amusement park. Situated on International Drive it’s an exciting day out for all the family.

This year the attraction celebrates 20 years of wonder! WonderWorks celebrated its birthday on Saturday 3rd March with special anniversary activities and giveaways up until 16th March.

Why is the WonderWorks building upside down? This is probably the first question that comes to mind when you see WonderWorks, as the 82ft tall upside-down building is certainly eye-catching! We were curious too when we first spotted this attraction in Orlando.

This is the background story from WonderWorks themselves:

“WonderWorks began as a top-secret research laboratory on a remote island in the Bermuda Triangle. During a top-secret experiment, something went awry. When the scientists attempted to harness the power of a man-made tornado, the giant, swirling vortex unleashed its power throughout the laboratories! The energy vortex lifted the research facility from its foundations and transported the laboratory hundreds of miles away to Orlando, Florida, where it landed, upside-down, but otherwise functionally intact.”

Experience 6 different WonderZones There’s so much to see and get involved with at WonderWorks that you certainly won’t get bored here.

• Natural Disasters - Become a human lightning rod, see what it feels like to encounter an earthquake and a hurricane, and hold your hand in freezing cold water, simulating how cold the ocean was during the Titanic disaster.

• Physical Challenge - Are you brave enough to lie down on a bed of nails? You can test this out on 3500 nails at WonderWorks! The kids will especially love the bubble lab, where they can create bubbles the size of basketballs.

• Light & Sound - Learn about sound and the speed of light in this fun, interactive exhibit.

• Space Discovery - Experience the feeling of weightlessness in the Astronaut Training Challenge, sit inside a spacecraft and find out more about space suits.

Within the Space Discovery WonderZone you also get the chance to design your own roller coaster. Once constructed, experience your creation within a simulator type ride.

• Imagination Lab - Bring out your creativity here, with some exciting mind games and a forensic science exhibit. This area also has some wonderful activities for younger children.

• Far Out Gallery - As you make your way up to the basement, you’ll come across paintings and artwork of illusions covering the walls. Open your eyes and your mind to see all the pieces of every picture!

Glow-in-the-dark indoor ropes course (Included with general admission)

This three-storey indoor obstacle course is fun for all the family! Test your mental and physical abilities on over 20 different obstacles within this glow-in-the-dark adventure. It’s the first of its kind in Orlando!

4D XD Motion Theater (Included with general admission)

Transcend time, space and imagination within this one-of-a-kind 4D experience. Take a seat in the XD Motion Theater to watch a 3D film combined with special effects and full motion seating. It’s an extraordinary adventure you’ll have to experience!

Laser Tag Orlando (Included with general admission)

Venture into a glow-in-the-dark maze, where you’ll compete against your family and friends in this action-packed battle of laser tag! The object of the game is to outplay, outlast and outshoot the other players.

After an extreme game of laser tag, you can then test your gaming skills in the video arcade area.

The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show (Additional cost to general admission)

Become a part of this one-of-a-kind entertainment experience. The dinner show at WonderWorks is interactive, entertaining and hilariously funny, so expect to be impressed! Dinner includes unlimited fresh hand-tossed cheese and pepperoni pizza, salad, beer, wine, soft drinks and dessert.

As you can see there’s a range of interactive experiences to explore at WonderWorks. You’ll probably only need around three to four hours here for the full WonderWorks experience though. It’s also open until midnight every day, so you could include it pretty much anywhere in your itinerary! So why not do something a little different on your Orlando holiday and join WonderWorks in their 20th birthday celebrations.
