Virtual Reality comes to LEGOLAND Florida

The Great LEGO Race opening on 23rd March 2018!

Are you ready for the wildest LEGO race ever imagined?! LEGOLAND Florida will soon transform the existing Project X roller coaster into a thrilling experience with virtual reality technology.

The Great LEGO Race is the first virtual reality roller coaster experience designed for kids and represents the first time the LEGO brand and minifigure characters have been integrated with VR technology in a theme park attraction!

This new and updated roller coaster is set to open on 23rd March 2018!

The Virtual Reality experience

The Great LEGO Race puts kids in the drivers seat! Once your headset is on, the wild and wacky ride begins, racing against a pirate, wizard, surfer and pharaoh. Race vehicles include a rocket-powered windsurfing rig, a stylish scooter fuelled by espresso and an ornately canopied bed carried by mummy servants.

Everything is made of LEGO bricks within this dazzling virtual reality world. With the VR headset you’ll experience the action from every direction, whilst riding up, down, twisting and turning through the roller coaster ride.

Wearing the VR headset is optional, so you can also ride without it.

A guest 48 inches (1.21m) or taller can ride with or without the VR headset if he or she is alone. If he or she is supervising a companion rider 42-47 inches (1.06m-1.19m), both riders cannot wear the VR headset. 

“The Great LEGO Race was inspired by the way kids play with LEGO toys at home,” said Candy Holland, senior creative director for Merlin Magic Making, which designs and develops attractions for Merlin Entertainments sites around the world. “It’s a unique LEGO adventure that lets kids enter an epic imaginary world made entirely from LEGO bricks, featuring a host of different themes and fun LEGO characters, all mixed up together.”

Funnel Cake Factory

Enjoy a sweet treat after crossing the finish line, as a new food place will also be opening alongside The Great LEGO Race. The Funnel Cake Factory is a great pit stop for freshly made-to-order funnel cakes with toppings including fresh fruit, powdered sugar and soft-serve ice cream.

But what is funnel cake? They are American funfair favourites made from the same ingredients as doughnuts. The mix is poured through a funnel into hot oil, deep-fried until crisp and then served with sprinkled icing sugar.

Other exciting junior roller coasters at LEGOLAND Florida

All of the roller coasters at LEGOLAND Florida are geared towards coaster beginners or kids. They have some great themes that add to the fun of the roller coaster experience.

• The Dragon - Climb aboard this LEGO-themed dragon roller coaster for an enchanted journey in and around the LEGOLAND Castle. You’ll encounter a wizard and a huge steam-breathing LEGO dragon, as this ride twists you through almost 2000ft of steel track, with a mildly thrilling 30ft drop. It’s all about the fun and there's nothing to fear!

• Coastersaurus - A fun, wooden roller coaster, which curves and dips around a prehistoric jungle with animated life-sized LEGO brick dinosaurs.

• Flying School - The kids can experience the thrill of flight on this suspended steel coaster. Flying School takes off five stories above the ground, sending guests on a twisted, loop-less course.
