There's so much to explore at the NEW Toy Story Land
You’ll find yourself shrunk to the size of one of the Green Army Men as you visit the newest addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer – Toy Story Land. This family-friendly new zone, which opened on 30th June this year takes you directly into Andy’s backyard and brings all of your favourite Toy Story characters including Woody, Jessie and Buzz to life. With the introduction of two new themed rides and a food outlet serving up tasty treats and classic American fare, there is lots to see and do here!
Standing at around 20ft tall, a model of Woody is on hand to welcome guests to the new land where there is plenty of Toy Story-themed fun for fans of the franchise to enjoy. It can be found behind the existing interactive 4-D Toy Story Midway Mania! attraction which has proved popular with visitors to the park since its opening ten years ago.
Meet with Jessie, Buzz and Woody as they greet guests, and watch out for Sarge and his Green Army Men, who march through the land several times a day and play a game of ‘Sarge Says’ with guests. You could even volunteer to join in on their boot camp and see if you have what it takes to be one of their official recruits!
Slinky Dog Dash
The headline attraction for this colourful new land, filled with fun toys and characters from the films is the Slinky Dog Dash; a roller coaster built from Andy’s Mega Coaster Play Kit, for guests with a minimum height of 38” (97cm) which stretches around the new land.
Get to the front of the queue to board this funky 18-seat coaster, which puts you on the back of Slinky Dog and offers a great view of the land around you as he whizzes past his Toy Story friends, who can be found at various stages along the ride. Finally, you’ll be greeted by Wheezy the penguin, who has been brought to life by the Disney Imagineers using Audio-Animatronics, and serenades the seated riders with his version of the song You’ve Got a Friend in Me, ably assisted by Mike the tape recorder, and Mr Spell who types out a funny commentary to accompany him.
Alien Swirling Saucers
When you have caught your breath after the Slinky Dog Dash, make your way to the other ride in this land – the Alien Swirling Saucers, where you will find Buzz Lightyear towering over the entrance to the Pizza Planet attraction. Hop on board your rocket ready to be towed by the little green aliens’ flying saucers and hold on tight as they spin you round and round beneath ‘The Claw’ to a fast-paced intergalactic soundtrack!
Woody’s Lunch Box
Don’t forget to keep your energy up – you’ll need it to explore the rest of the park! While you are in Toy Story Land, it would be the perfect opportunity to grab a bite to eat from Woody’s Lunch Box; Andy’s old lunch box which has been propped open with a Thermos flask and turned into a walk-up window where you can order a range of food and drinks.
On the menu are a variety of dishes that will take you all the way through from breakfast to dinner and are designed by the team at the concept kitchen Flavor Lab to give classic American foods and nostalgic childhood treats a fresh and modern twist.
Why not try the S’more French Toast Breakfast Sandwich; a chocolate ganache and marshmallow filled French toast inspired by the traditional campfire favourite? Or how about some Tochos – a spicy dish made with potato barrels, corn chips, chillies and cheese, which can all be rinsed down with a refreshing root beer float. Big kids can even enjoy a Grown-Up's Lemonade in Andy’s backyard – consisting of cherry vodka, lemonade and black cherry puree.
There is something for all the family to enjoy in Toy Story Land and we’d love to hear from you if you have any photos from your trip or thoughts about the rides or food that you’d like to share!
