Celebrating Halloween at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The witching hour is upon us at Disney this Halloween, and where better to experience a magical night than at the iconic Magic Kingdom? For a whopping 34 evenings from 17th August – 31st October you can satisfy your need for scares at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party; a celebration of all things Halloween, which is suitable for every member of the family, with a big emphasis on the not-so-scary-but-fun tone of the season.

From 7pm to midnight, things go bump in the night with a spooktacular Halloween party, thrown the Disney way. At this specially-ticketed event, you will meet with all of your favourite characters (many of whom are dressed in their own special Halloween costumes), go trick-or-treating, experience popular rides with a Halloween twist, and much more!

This is a great opportunity to let your imagination run wild as you dress for the occasion in a fun costume for Halloween, though you should check on Disney’s website for the rules around suitable clothing, to avoid being refused entry. With around half the guests in the park in costume, it’s a great chance to get into the ‘spirit’ of things!

Make sure that you don’t miss Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade as it makes its way through the park, beginning the night’s festivities. You’ll be enchanted by this spooktacular procession which is led by the Headless Horseman and followed by a whole host of fearsome floats, featuring all your favourite Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes.

Playing host to this year’s Halloween party are the troublesome witches, the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus, who take to the stage on Main Street for the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, which serves as a great introduction to the night’s theme with upbeat music, dancing and stunning light projections. Watch as the three sisters enlist the help of Disney’s villains and spooks including Oogie Boogie, Dr. Facilier and Maleficent to create the Hocus Pocus Party Potion, putting a spell on everyone in the park!

There is plenty to see and do at the party, with dozens of popular rides staying open and this year make sure you see the new special twists that have been added to some attractions! Head over to the spinning Mad Tea Party ride to experience the new lighting and effects, whizz through Space Mountain accompanied by a special Halloween soundtrack, or even join some rookie buccaneers at Pirates of the Caribbean as they hunt for Gunpowder Pete.

Trick-or-treating is a big part of Halloween celebrations in America, and where better to get your fill of sweets and treats than around Magic Kingdom? Fortunately, even adults can get their share of sweets as they venture around the park, and even those with food allergies can join in on the fun, by collecting special tokens that can be redeemed later.

As you make your way around the park searching for sweets, don’t forget to pay a visit to Frontierland and have a chuckle at the Cadaver Dans – a ghostly barbershop quartet group who love a good pun and using humour in their songs!

For the younger members of your party, pay a visit to the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam, a new dance party event that features some of your favourite Disney Junior characters. Older children (and big kids too) might prefer the Scream-o-Ween Dance Party, in the company of Mike, Sulley and other Monsters, Inc. friends!

Stunning pyrotechnics and light shows are a big part of the Disney experience, and the Happy HalloWishes Fireworks over Cinderella’s castle are sure to hit the mark. This crescendo of all-things Halloween is accompanied by a familiar Disney soundtrack of classic creepy tunes as the villains of the piece, including Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Ursula, Oogie Boogie and Jafar do a wicked turn of trying to steal the show while fireworks rocket into the air!

If you want to get a good view of the fireworks, and grab a bite to eat at the park, you might consider booking tickets for the Happy HalloWishes Dessert Party with Plaza Garden Viewing, which as well as providing tasty treats, offers priority views over Cinderella Castle.

With only five hours to experience all of the spooky goings on, you’ll need to plan your visit well. Although the party begins at 7pm, guests over the last few years have been able to enter the park as early as 4pm, but this is not set in stone.

Another way to avoid the crowds is to work your way into the park from the outer edges, as most people will head straight to the area around the castle. This means you get the chance to stock up on sweets and take to the rides before the crowds descend!

Talking of sweets, if there is a queue to collect the goodies on offer, then either go on a ride or try another location, rather than wait! There are plenty of sweet treats around the park, so they won’t run out if you leave collecting them till later!

If you plan to attend this spooky event, it is sensible to book early, as tickets are likely to sell out especially around the Halloween dates. Also prices vary depending on when in the season you attend, so if you want to save a few pounds, look at attending a little earlier – you’ll still have fiendish good fun the way only Disney can provide!
