Watch out for the zombie invasion on International Drive!

Watch out! The zombie invasion has finally begun! Dare to face your fears as the dead have lurched back to life at Orlando’s interactive live-action experience, Zombie Outbreak.

Over on International Drive, at the heart of Orlando, it doesn’t just need to be Halloween for the fear factor to be ramped up; you can be scared all-year-round! In Florida since 2016, this laser-tag style adventure game is bound to get your pulse racing, and give you the chance to unleash your competitive spirit! With the popularity of zombies in mainstream media, including hit TV show and comic book The Walking Dead, as well as numerous computer games and films, this exciting experience where you essentially get the chance to be part of a real-life computer game is bound to appeal to fans of the genre!

The background to this zombie invasion lies in the military base, where experiments at a lab researching zombies have (inevitably) gone horribly wrong! Now, only you and your team stand between the marauding undead horde and their escape into the general populace. Join your family and friends on an undead-defying mission to clear the invading zombie swarm from the military base and make sure that you all survive to tell the tale!

Before venturing into the base you will be given a briefing on how to use your realistic-looking weapon, and what reactions to expect from the free-roaming zombies who are dying to get a bite of the action themselves! If you shoot them they will be stunned for between 5 and 7 seconds, which should be long enough for you and your teammates to avoid getting bitten – and turned into the undead yourselves – on your way through the course! After you have familiarised yourself with your weapon and your mission, you will be escorted past the safety barrier for your once-in-a-lifetime zombie-hunting experience to begin in earnest!

Use real-life replicas of close-quarter battle rifles, with realistic firing sounds, recoils and bright muzzle-flashes to add a touch of authenticity, as you target the approaching undead enemies who lurk around every corner of this apocalyptic scene. Be careful though – you will have a limited amount of ammunition to defend yourself and suppress the attack, and once you have run out, you’ll have to rely on your teammates to protect you from becoming the latest zombie to join the horde. Keep your wits about you, despite your pounding heart – you’ll need to use all your senses to detect them – any strange sound may be a hint that they are about to attack your party. Remember what you have learnt from all those zombie films over the years – always aim for the head!

To keep track of your hit rate and zombie-killing statistics, the costumed actors wear state-of-the-art targets that record your scores, but be careful – you’ll lose points – and your life – if the zombies get too close! Who will have the bragging rights at the end of the game?

To get the most out of the experience parties are split into groups of four or five, and if you have children in your group it is worth noting that it might be too scary for some of them. Anyone under the age of 13 has to be accompanied by a parent/guardian, and anyone under 18 needs to have a parent/guardian present to sign a waiver.

Your first run-through of the experience will take you around 15 minutes, and will cost $24.95 per person (excluding fees and taxes). This includes the standard 150 round ammunition pack. If you want to play again, the price drops to $12.95 per person (again excluding the applicable taxes etc). As you will know what to do the second time, it is a quicker, but more intense experience – especially as you are left to navigate your way through the course without a guide!
