Staying Healthy and Hygienic at Orlando’s Theme Parks
With more people concerned about how to stay healthy and hygienic at the theme parks, due to Coronavirus, we thought it would be helpful to put together a blog to help ease those worries.
As we all know, theme parks have many visitors from around the world, which can mean exposure to germs, so taking the right precautions during this time will help protect your family, as well as others.
The theme parks have already been putting procedures into place for guests and employees, such as face coverings, temperature checks, limited capacity, social distancing floor markings, hand sanitisers around the parks and more. All of the parks are opening up in the safest way possible, to make sure guests are not only safe, but they feel safe as well. Take a look at our recent blog for full information.
Below are a few tips that you can put into use when visiting the theme parks. It’s good to keep these tips in mind for other attractions around Orlando too.
Wash Hands Frequently
We’ve all been doing this a lot recently, and it’s important to continue your hygiene routine whilst on holiday too. Washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of any germs. The theme parks have added more hand sanitiser stations and accessible hand-washing facilities throughout, along with lots of informative signs advising guests to wash for at least 20 seconds.
Bring Masks, Tissues, Disinfectant Wipes, Hand Wipes and Hand Sanitiser
All of these items are likely to come in handy throughout your day at the theme parks. Masks are required to be worn at the Universal Parks, Disney Parks and SeaWorld Parks, as well as Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk, so this is a definite item to consider for your travels, as you will likely need it for the airport and flight as well. It is not clear how long these measures will be in place, so it’s best to check the theme park and airline websites before you travel.
When choosing a mask for your travels, look for comfort, as you’re going to be wearing it a lot of the time. Getting a soft mask that doesn’t pull on your head or ears is essential for all day usage. It’s also a good idea to pack a second mask, in case the first gets wet, sweaty or dirty when out and about.
The mask should help you to avoid touching your face. Although, this can be nearly impossible for smaller children, so the next best thing is to keep their hands as clean as possible, with the use of hand wipes and hand sanitiser. It’s useful to carry these around, if a bathroom is inconvenient and you wish to stay clean. You will especially want to clean hands before eating. Disinfectant wipes can be used to wipe down surfaces of tables when dining as well. The staff at the parks have been trained to keep these areas thoroughly clean throughout the day.
Take a look at some other essentials you will likely need for a day at the theme parks in our blog.
Avoid Touching Things
This is probably easier said than done, even for adults. Keep an eye on the little ones especially, as they’re likely to touch everything. Keeping children in pushchairs and carriers can limit their access to hand rails and door handles.
Parks and attractions are advising people to use contactless payments as much as possible. Some of the parks, such as Disney World, allow you to order and pay for food through their app, so all you have to do is pick it up.
Refrain from Visiting When You Don’t Feel Well
It’s not just about staying healthy and hygienic, it’s also about being considerate of others. If you have any illness, it’s best to avoid affecting others, as well as tiring yourself out. All of the main parks currently have temperature checks in place as you arrive, so you’ll only be turned away if you are unwell with a temperature over 100.4 degrees.
There is certainly more things to follow with your health and hygiene whilst at the theme parks at the moment, which some may find a little overwhelming. Here’s some extra tips to help improve your day:
- Eat well and start your day with a good breakfast.
- Drink water more often. Bring reusable water bottles and stay hydrated. There are lots of water fountains around the parks to fill your bottles and you can always get free ice water from restaurants.
- Take extra breaks throughout the day. There are areas that allow you to take your mask off, so make use of these.
- Break your day into sections with an extended mid-day meal or rest.
- Use sun protection.
- Have patience with employees and fellow park guests. Everyone is trying to adjust to these new procedures.
- Check the new rules of the parks before arriving. You will feel more comfortable knowing what to expect.
Overall, if we all practice good health, hygiene and wellness throughout our holidays, we will also be going home healthy.
