World’s Largest White Castle Opens in Orlando
The World’s largest White Castle opened this year in Orlando, so you can enjoy a taste of their famous sliders on your next holiday to Florida.
Locals have had cravings for these miniature hamburgers for a long time, as this White Castle restaurant is the first to open in the Sunshine State since the 1960s. It is located close to Walt Disney World, approximately 20 minutes away from our villas in Kissimmee.
It’s a big year for White Castle, as they also celebrated their 100th Birthday in March of this year, with ongoing celebrations throughout the year.
The History of White Castle
White Castle has been a family-owned business since 1921. Billy Ingram launched the business with $700 and an idea, selling five-cent, small, square hamburgers so easy to eat, they were dubbed Sliders.
There were only 4 items available to order at the first White Caste restaurant; the Original Slider, apple pie, coffee and Coca-Cola.
Billy Ingram had many innovative ideas throughout his life including inventing restaurant takeaway in 1927, by offering a bag of sliders that could be purchased specifically to take home.
In 1957 Fast Food Magazine declared Billy Ingram the Grandaddy of the Hamburger and credited him with the creation of the fast food industry.
White Castle became the first fast food hamburger chain to sell over 1 billion burgers in 1961. A year later the cheeseburger slider joined the menu, as their first new menu item.
On their 75th birthday in 1996, the restaurant celebrated with a technological innovation and launched the first website for a quick service restaurant.
White Castle’s iconic Original Slider was declared the most influential burger of all time by Time Magazine in 2014.
Today White Castle owns and operates more than 360 restaurants dedicated to satisfying customer’s slider cravings morning, noon and night.
A White Castle Birthday Cake
All birthday celebrations should include birthday cake, which is why the restaurant added a new sweet addition to their menu to mark the occasion, called “Birthday Cake On-A-Stick”. Other dessert options include Fudge Dipped Cheesecake On-A-Stick, Fudge Dipped Brownie On-A-Stick and Gooey Buttercake On-A-Stick.
The limited time Birthday Cake dessert features a vanilla cake base with white frosting, topped with blue, white and orange sprinkles - keeping with the White Castle colour scheme.
