Walt Disney World's New Disability Access Service (DAS): What You Need to Know
Walt Disney World has recently implemented changes to its Disability Access Service (DAS), a vital programme designed to assist guests with developmental disabilities, such as autism, in enjoying the parks without enduring the stress of extended waits in conventional queues. Here's everything you need to know DAS and how to register for the service.
Streamlined Registration Process
One of the most notable changes is the elimination of in-person registration for DAS at the parks. Now, ALL applications must be completed via a live video chat. This change aims to streamline the process and ensure that those who genuinely need the service can access it more efficiently.
New Eligibility Criteria
To address the growing misuse of DAS, Disney has narrowed the eligibility criteria. DAS is now explicitly for guests with developmental disabilities such as autism or similar conditions. This move is intended to ensure the service is used fairly and improves the park experience for all guests.
Key Changes to DAS
Extended Enrolment Period: Guests can now register for DAS up to 30days in advance, a significant increase from the previous 60-day window.
Reduced Party Size: The maximum party size for DAS has been reduced to four guests, including the registered DAS guest.
Collaboration with Inspire Health Alliance: Disney has partnered with Inspire Health Alliance to help Cast Members accurately determine eligibility for DAS.
How to Register for DAS
To register for DAS, follow these steps:
Live Video Chat: Speak with a Cast Member via live video chat to determine eligibility. This can be done up to 30 days before your park visit.
Photo Requirement: If DAS is granted, the guest with the disability (or a parent/guardian) will need to participate in the registration process, including having a photo taken.
Party Size: The DAS-registered guest can be joined by up to three additional carers, friends or family members, for a total of four people.
Important Information for DAS Users
• Validity: DAS is valid for the length of your ticket or up to 120 days, whichever is shorter. After this period, guests must re-register.
• Park-Specific: DAS issued at Walt Disney World Resort is valid at Disney’s Magical Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. It is not valid at Disneyland Resort in California or Disneyland Paris.
• Truthfulness Requirement: Any false statements made during the DAS registration process will result in permanent barring from both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, with no refunds for previously purchased passes or tickets.
Using DAS in the Parks
Guests using DAS can make return time selections through the My Disney Experience app or by speaking to a Cast Member at Guest Relations or Guest Experience Team locations. Here are some key points to remember:
• Virtual Waits: During a DAS virtual wait, guests can enjoy other attractions, shows, and experiences, take breaks, or shop and dine.
• Return Time Flexibility: DAS return times are valid until the park or attraction closes for the day, providing flexibility for guests.
• Multiple Return Times: Guests can only have one active DAS return time at a time but can obtain another return time 10 minutes after redeeming the previous one.
• Virtual Queue Compatibility: Guests with an active DAS return time can also have a boarding group for a virtual queue attraction simultaneously.
